Several years ago I scratch built the famous scene of ASPB 92-7 sinking. The photograph on the top is my recreation and the bottom photograph is the actual wartime picture taken by Navy Cameraman PCH Dan Dodd.
On 14 March 1968, while patrolling the Sam Giang River, an enemy B-40 rocket hit ASPB 92-7 on the stern just below the waterline. The Alpha boat was beached in an attempt to keep her from sinking while the crew worked feverously to repair the damage while under direct enemy fire on the opposite bank. The boat finally sank and because of intense enemy fire, salvage operations were not possible, so the boat was stripped and destroyed in place by a navy EOD team.
